Bill spent seven years at the University of Great Falls as the Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach. In his time at UGF, he had 40 athletes qualify for the NAIA National Championships in XC and T&F. Before his tenure began for the Argos, he was the Boys and Girls cross country coach at Whitefish High School. This was a position he held for eight years, from 2004 through 2011.
During that time, the Lady Bulldogs won four State A XC Championships, while the boys achieved two third place State finishes, and placed second at State in 2010. Prior to coaching at Whitefish, Bill coached 4 NJCAA All Americans and one NJCAA National champion in cross county during his six years at Flathead Valley Community College.
He began his coaching with the Flathead High School program as an assistant, a position he held for five seasons. Bill won the 1983 USA National Junior 8 km Cross Country title and competed in the World Junior XC Championships in Gateshead, England. While a collegian, when ran for Montana State University, he was invited to participate in a Junior Elite Distance Running Camp at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
